20% projects showcase student prototypes

Upper school students in Mr. White's Anatomy and Ecology class are presenting their 20% projects to classmates and staff. Counting for 20% of their grade, this project summates students' skills in business, research, and presentation.
The goal: create an original product; construct a business model to promote that product; and pitch and defend the model to peers and staff. During the pitch, staff reviews the product and critiques the presentation. Each presentation is then followed by an intensive question and answer time.
Students spend nine weeks developing their products, with work done in and out of the classroom. Time management, creativity, and problem-solving skills are developed and tested along the way. This semester, some amazing products came to fruition, like an app for Track and Field athletes, a solar-power phone charger, an illustrated guide to natural remedies, essential oil infused soda, a folic acid shot to combat spinabifida, and many more.
The designs and business plans focus on ways to improve our world through free enterprise, scientifically, artistically, and economically. The opportunity for students to present their inventions to staff and receive critical feedback provides valuable experience for the student-entrepreneurs.
