Preschool Art Show celebrates artistic expression of young students

Preschool students showcased their visual art pieces to family and classmates this week at the Preschool Art Show.
The students have been studying the work of Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, Paul Cezanne, Paul Klee, Claes Oldenburg, Ansel Adams, and Mark Rothko. Led by art instructor Rachel Jones, each class explored a different form of visual art pioneered and mastered by these iconic artists. Whether employing cubism, impressionism, or still life methods, these young students experimented with color, texture, and technique in their own pieces.

Having the preschoolers present their creations in the setting of an exhibit allows them to be proud of their work and appreciate the work of others. Students excitedly walked parents and peers through the hallways to point out their favorite pieces. The projects also gave students a wide range of visual styles to observe, helping them discover what is visually pleasing and expressive to them.

"I have found that many of the preschool students look forward to art class, not only as a time to be creative and learn about new mediums, but as a time to decompress and use their imagination and energy in a positive way," comments Jones.
