Middle school students participated in Jam the Gym this week, supporting the MS basketball teams as they took on opponents at home. An annual event, Jam the Gym is a show of school spirit, sportsmanship, and support for peers as they compete.
"This is a way to build community, have fun, and encourage our classmates, while also learning about sportsmanship and conduct in a large group," explained Head of MS Rhonda Smith.
The students stay after school, make signs, learn team cheers, and practice ways to be a good fan. After the sixth grade girls game against Franklin Road Academy, one of the players remarked on the amazing atmosphere it creates when friends and family pack the gym to watch the game. Seeking intentional community is a hallmark of CPA middle school. Students are given a glimpse into what it means to be a part of something bigger than oneself.
