CPA upper school arts students recently traveled to New York City for several days to experience art and life all around the city. Students explored the city and its vast landscape of culture from The Met, to Broadway, to Times Square.
Day one involved a tour of The Met, Central Park, and theatre students attended the Broadway production of The Play that Goes Wrong. Visual art students enjoyed nature sketching at the Chichuly Exhibit at New York Botanical Gardens and experiencing the Museum of Modern Art. Day two featured a tour of NBC Studios, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, and the Broadway shows Time and the Conways! and Junk!Media arts students were excited to walk through NBC Studios where Saturday Night Live is filmed weekly.
Late night chats at Junior's Cheesecake in Times Square and The Shake Shack in Central Park provided students time to discuss their favorite shows, museums, sights, and share observations from the trip together. On day three, after worshipping at Metro Baptist Church downtown and seeing the musical Anastasia! on Broadway, students enjoyed a sunset cruise on the Hudson highlighting New York's magnificent skyline.
"From the elegance of The Met and Lincoln Center, to the green space of Central Park, to the crush of energy and activity in Times Square, CPA students had an in-depth and intensive look at the arts on a large scale. They experienced transit, foreign languages, and a plethora of world views espoused on placards and people. It was a cultural immersion expanding perspective and understanding, with an incredible amount of fun and community - a rich success," remarks CPA Artistic Director Paula Flautt.
