CPA second graders visit The Clay Lady

CPA second grade students had the opportunity to explore both science and art this week at a hands-on workshop with The Clay Lady. Students employed the art-making process by molding and painting clay heart plates as they discussed the raw materials used to create clay products, connecting their work with the conclusion of their Science unit on Soil.
Student creations were left with The Clay Lady to fire in her kiln to complete the pieces, to be returned to students in the coming weeks, allowing them to observe first-hand the changes in states of matter following exposure to heat.
Of the experience, a second grade student shared, “My favorite part was painting the heart-shaped plate. We got to pick out our own colors, and it was very fun.”
Students also watched other professional artists at work, including a highlight of watching a potter “throw” a vase. Most important, students connected their experience to the truth in their weekly Bible verse: "O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." Isaiah 64:8
