CPA fourth grade visits Country Music Hall of Fame

CPA fourth graders recently visited Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame as part of their music enrichment unit on rhythm and lyrics. Students participated in the Hall of Fame’s Words & Music program, a program that supports classroom teachers as they guide students through the process of lyrical production. Not only does Words & Music teach core curriculum, but it also connects young people to Nashville’s music community, pairing classes with songwriters who transform student lyrics into finished songs that are performed in an interactive workshop.
After exploring the song writing process in their classrooms, students wrote their own lyrics and attended their final songwriting workshop in the Taylor Swift Education Center at the Hall of Fame. Several selections were set to music and performed by professional lyricists.
Students were able to engage in the songwriting process from start to finish, enjoying the finished product of their own songs performed by local artists.
“The Words & Music program allowed fourth graders to use descriptive and creative writing skills while crafting lyrics on a topic of their own choosing. When we arrived on the day of the field trip, students were treated to the surprise of their lyrics produced in a live performance by these awesome local professionals,” says Instructor of Fourth Grade Andrea Malloy.
