Chess team honors former instructor at Ron Seaney Memorial Scholastic Tournament

The CPA chess team, led by K-5 Enrichment instructor Igor Zhislin, was well represented in the Ron Seaney Memorial Scholastic Tournament at Percy Priest Elementary School last week. CPA was the only school with players in each of the four sections of the competition! The tournament was in memory of former CPA chess instructor Ron Seany who passed away last spring.
"I really enjoy chess because it's fun to think about what the other player is going to do next. There are a lot of neat tricks that Mr. Igor knows, so we use those at tournaments," says fourth grader Ellie.

Congratulatoins to the following students who placed in each category:
  • K-2nd Grade Section: CPA team won 5th place. Drew Connelly won 1st place unrated trophy. Owen Calhoun won 13th place medal.
  • 3rd-4th Grade Section: CPA team won 3rd place. John-Austin Shofner won a top 20 medal.
  • 5th-6th Grade Section: Andrew Wright won 17th place medal.
  • 7th-12th Grade Section: Nelson Lamkin won 14th place medal.
"Mr. Seaney was a good teacher because he was really good at chess and took time to teach us how to play," explained fourth grader Luke, when asked his favorite thing about the late Ron Seaney.
