Middle and high school musicians earn spots in honor band

Six CPA middle and high school band students were invited to participate in the 2015-16 Middle Tennessee State Band And Orchestra Association’s (MTSBOA) Mid-State Honor Band in Murfreesboro, two in the Gold Concert Band, one in Silver Concert Band, one in Jazz Band, and two as concert and jazz alternates.
  • Hunter Wilson - Gold Concert Band - F Horn
  • Sarah Faulk - Gold Concert Band - Alto Sax
  • Matthew Brolund - Silver Concert Band - Tenor Sax
  • JJ Williams - Jazz Band - Drum Set
  • Alternates
    • Nickolas Funk - Concert Band and Jazz Band - Bari Sax
    • Ashley Ferrell - Jazz Band - Drum Set
These students qualifying for Mid-State honors auditioned and received a score to place them in Gold or Silver ensembles. Top musicians from the Gold pool are invited to attend the Tennessee All-State band and orchestra clinic at the Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference in April.
Sophomore Hunter Wilson attended for the first time as a member of the Gold Concert Band. “This past year Mr. Fulwider gave me the chance to be in the orchestra pit for the play Mary Poppins. The music was challenging, yet the overall experience was really fun. Being a part of the CPA band program has allowed me to learn a large variety of music,” Wilson says. “It was thrilling to perform with the top student-musicians across Middle Tennessee. It allowed me to meet new people and play challenging music. Being a part of this elite group has inspired me to continue learning and growing as a musician.”
The All Mid-State band clinic took place January 7-9, and the All Mid-State orchestra and jazz band clinic begins January 14. The free performances at the culmination of the clinic will take place at Blackman High School and Blackman Middle School on Saturday, January 16.
