Salt & Light Studios hosts songwriter Ashley Gorley

Salt & Light Studios, an upper school arts symposium, hosted songwriter Ashley Gorley at their most recent student lunch and learn in the upper school library.
Ashley Gorley is the reigning ASCAP Country Songwriter of the year earning this honor for the 6th time. He has achieved 38 #1s so far in his career. He is a 4-time NSAI Songwriter of the Year, and has received multiple Grammy, ACM, and CMA nominations including a nomination for ACM Songwriter of the Year the past 4 years.
His songs have been recorded by artists such as Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Bon Jovi, Thomas Rhett, Jason DeRulo, Kelsea Ballerini, and Dan + Shay. Ashley is a champion for the songwriting community. He has met with Senators and The Library of Congress to promote songwriters’ rights and bills such as the Music Modernization Act. In 2011, Gorley formed his own publishing and artist development company, Tape Room Music. Writers for Tape Room have already celebrated fifteen #1 songs, and eight top ten singles by artists such as Florida Georgia Line, Charlie Puth, Keith Urban, Dustin Lynch, Jason DeRulo, Kane Brown, and Sam Hunt including 2018 ASCAP Country Song of the Year, "Body Like A Back Road."

Ashley spoke with students about his creative process, the business of making music, and the life skills necessary for the industry that can be cultivated from a young age. Attendees were able to ask questions and hear a few stories about Ashley's songwriting adventures.
