Amy Grant speaks at Salt & Light Studios

CPA Arts Salt & Light Studio welcomed singer/songwriter Amy Grant this week. Arts students attending Salt & Light Studio enjoyed Grant's insight into her creative process, her artistic journey, and the ways in which she engages culture with her music today.

Grant has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, won six Grammy Awards, 22 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, and had the first Christian album ever to go Platinum. Her music has a significant cultural impact here in her home, Nashville, and all over the country. The musician shared with students the importance of staying engaged with themselves and the world around them:

"We live in a world with a 3-second attention span, and you really can't connect with anything in that mindset. Stay engaged in what goes on around you, pay attention to things, listen, and stick with it," said Grant. "All of our criticism is so intensely focused on ourselves! But all people remember is how you made them feel. It’s not if your art was perfect. Did you move someone?"

Artistic Director Paula Flautt spoke highliy of Grant's message: "She was so real and so relevant for anyone in terms of the creative process and life. She was authentic and connected."

Grant delivered an inspiring and relatable message about pursuing art in today's world and finding your way as a young adult. Students were allowed to ask questions and greet her afterwards. The series will host several other guests throughout the semester.
