College Counseling offers Special Topics evening for US Parents

Upper school parents are invited to a Special Topics evening on Tuesday, September 11,  7-8:30 p.m., in the Upper School Library to dive deeper into many of the subjects that emerge in the college application process. We will open the evening with a popular topic, "Paying for College" and then offer a choice of breakout sessions.

  • 7-7:45 p.m. Paying for College - Jason Seay, Assistant Executive Director of Outreach and College Access at the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation 

  • 7:45-8:30 p.m. Breakout sessions (choose 1) 
  • Understanding Your Emerging Adult - Adolescent Development in the College Application Process - Dr. Marcia Sutton, Associate Head of School

  • Nuts and Bolts of Standardized Tests - Ben Gatlin, Assistant Director of College Counseling and Lauren Blair, Upper School Learning Services Specialist
  • Understanding Admission to Highly Selective Institutions - Mary Stevens, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions, Vanderbilt University
  • Navigating Admission to Fine Arts Programs - Catherine Sawyer, Director of College Counseling, Laura McFadden, Instructor of Middle School Visual Arts, and Anna Lee McFadden, Instructor of Middle School Arts & Special Events
  • Pursuing an Appointment to a Military Academy - Brian Eytchison, United States Naval Academy liaison and father of Patrick Eytchison, CPA '12 and USNA '16 and Captain Hal Sauer, United States Air Force Academy Liaison and graduate of the Air Force Academy class of 1971
  • Continued Conversation on Paying for College (no new information at this session but an opportunity to ask more nuanced questions) - Jason Seay and Elizabeth Raymond, Assistant Director of College Counseling
