CPA welcomes new varsity volleyball head coach Embrey Brannon

Christ Presbyterian Academy is excited to announce the hiring of Embrey Brannon as the new varsity volleyball head coach beginning with the 2018-19 school year.
Coach Brannon will also serve the Academy as an Instructor in the Arts Department and brings experience and expertise to the classroom. She will begin leading the volleyball program in May and will join the CPA faculty and staff full time in July.

After graduating a decorated volleyball athlete from Bowie High School in Maryland, Brannon went on to play at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where she received a scholarship to play NCAA Division I Volleyball. Embrey was a four-year letter winner, served as team captain for two years, and played the positions of Libero and Setter. She was named the Outstanding Libero for the Northern Arizona University Tournament, amassed over 1,000 digs for her career, and was a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for two seasons. She also finished 23rd in the nation for NCAA service aces her senior season, and maybe most impressive of all, she played in 107 straight matches during her college career.

Following graduation from Rider she spent a year as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Division III Washington College located in Chestertown, MD. After her year at Washington College she was offered the Graduate Assistant Coaching position at Belmont University. Once she completed her master’s degree in Sports Administration she was asked to stay on as one of the assistant volleyball coaches. At Belmont, Brannon coached a total of 5 years (Atlantic Sun Champions and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008) primarily focusing on training the defensive specialists, teaching serve-receive concepts, and working with the setters. She was also in charge of running all of their summer volleyball camps, and spent a year coaching the 15 and under volleyball team for Nashville One Volleyball Club.

In 2012, Brannon joined Tracey Berry at Ravenwood High School where they went on to defeat Brentwood High School for the TSSAA State AAA Championship title. At the end of her first year she was offered a full-time teaching and head coaching position at Davidson Academy. She coached volleyball for three years and taught in the Arts Department in the areas of Music and Band. Brannon has a great passion for teaching music with her undergraduate degree from the prestigious Westminster Choir College of Rider University located in Princeton, NJ. She understands the importance of what it means to be a student-athlete and has a high expectation of excellence in the classroom as well as the volleyball court.

Brannon is looking forward to beginning a new chapter for CPA Volleyball and says, “God's calling for me to come to CPA was a very strong one. He opened a door that I didn't even know I was looking for. After spending a lot of time praying over whether this was the right move for my family, I suddenly had a sense of calm about the decision. God has opened an opportunity at the school that let me use both of my passions of teaching in the arts and coaching.”
