Travel Studies

To be a culture shaper, one must experience culture. CPA arts integrates travel studies into program curricula, allowing students opportunities to explore art in other settings, culture, and genres. Trips are curricular in focus, strategically planned to expose students to the incredible artistic landmarks, performances, and works of past and present artists. Travel studies are options offered on a rotational basis to upper level students. 

Theatre: Venture to The City that Never Sleeps

Theatre students participate in an annual travel study to New York City.

NYC tour highlights includes 3 Broadway shows, a performance workshop, tours of NBC Studios, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, the Metropolitan Opera, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Empire State Building, along with excursions to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Chelsea Market, Central Park, and a Dinner Cruise of the NYC Harbor.

Music Vocal: Discover the Windy City

Choral students attend a travel study to Chicago.

The travel study includes feature performances at a church and retirement center, a university choral workshop, a professional musical theatre performance, and excursions to the Chicago Cultural Center, Hancock Center, and MIllennium Park, with shopping on the Magnificent Mile and impromptu concerts along the way.

Media Arts: Explore the Entertainment Capital of the World

CPA media arts features an annual travel study to Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles travel study includes tours of Warner Brothers Studios, Hollywood, and Universal Studios and Park. Other highlights include the Dodge College of Film & Media at Chapman University and the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, time on the Santa Monica Pier, and encounters with guest speakers.

Music Instrumental: Experience the Windy City from a Different View

Instrumental students also visit Chicago to experience music in one of the nation's most vibrant scenes. 

En route to Chicago students stop over for a master classes at Taylor University and then on to Elkart, Indiana to experience the Conn-Selmer Instrumental Factor. They make their way to Chicago for a professional musical theatre performance, a clinic at Chicago University, shopping on the Magnificent Mile, a ride on the ferris wheel at Navy Pier, and tickets to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or a jazz concert. 

Visual Arts: Journey to The City of Dreams

Visual arts students attend an annual travel study to New York City.

This travel study includes sketching throughout the Metropolitan Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Chelsea High Line, New York Botanical Gardens, Central Park, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral along with one Broadway show, and a dinner cruise of the NYC Harbor.

Music Vocal: Escape to the Mountains

On alternate years, choral students take a shorter Christmas tour to The Biltmore in Asheville, NC, which includes a guest performance in the mansion, singing in the Villages of Biltmore and the Deer Park Inn, with special excursions through the Mansion and the Dairy Barn.
