TICE Business & Entrepreneurship Students Travel to NYC to Meet Investment Leaders

Upper school TICE Business & Entrepreneurship students traveled to New York City to explore real-life applications of what they have learned in their units on financial investments. This exploration allowed students to connect and learn about business, culture, and future opportunities from industry leaders.

In classes, TICE Business & Entrepreneurship students have learned about the significance of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)  to the history and landscape of the U.S. economy. On their trip, students had the unique opportunity to walk on the NYSE trading floor and speak to a specialist. A historian led students on a tour of the NYSE where they learned more about its inception and saw trademarks like the closing bell. This experience offered students access to leaders in the financial industry and tangibly strengthened their understanding of the foundations of the U.S. economy.

Students dove deeper into learning about investments in meetings with industry leaders from Morgan Stanley, Capital Group, and The Riverside Company. These discussions focused on the importance of building relationships, cultivating a strong work ethic, staying curious, contributing value to an organization, and work-life balance. These conversations gave students insight into the skills and qualities investment firms look for in applicants, which will be invaluable as they set professional and personal goals.

Between investment meetings, students squeezed in hallmark New York experiences like riding the subway, seeing Hamilton on Broadway, enjoying a New York slice, taking a stroll down 5th Avenue, and catching a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden.

Before departing, students met with Mike Keller, of Redeemer Church, to explore how faith and works come together. In a heavy work culture like Wall Street, keeping faith at the center of life can be challenging, but Keller shared ways to create balance while following God’s call on our lives. This was the perfect way to close out the trip, and we are excited to see where the Lord leads these students in the future.
