Three CPA Upper School students named National Merit Semifinalists

Congratulations to seniors Luke Altman, Lukas Jackson, and Abigail Walker on being named semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Competition.

The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) is a practice version of the SAT, consisting of reading, writing, and math sections. Chosen based on their 2022 PSAT scores, these three students are in the top 1 percent of test-takers in Tennessee.

These students join approximately 16,000 high school students in earning this honor. Luke, Lukas, and Abigail now have the opportunity to continue in the nationwide competition to be named National Merit Finalists and, ultimately, scholars. They will also have the opportunity to compete for approximately 7,000 National Merit Scholarships.

These three students have taken 43 Advanced Placement (AP) courses and 20 Honors courses, excelling both inside and outside the classroom. Alongside their required coursework, these scholars are pursuing endorsements in The Institute of Cultural Engagement (TICE). Currently, Abigail is working towards an engineering endorsement, and Lucas and Luke are pursuing both engineering and computer science endorsements in the Center for Inquiry + Design, honing their problem-solving, critical thinking, and research skills.

We are proud of their hard work and commitment to academic excellence, and we can’t wait to see where their talents lead them next!
