Second grade visits the State Capitol

As a culmination of second grade’s study of Ancient Greece and its contributions to democracy and architecture, they visited and toured the historic Tennessee State Capitol. One of the oldest working capitols in the nation, this Greek Revival style building contains a great deal of history within its limestone walls. This experiential learning adventure provided students with an opportunity to make connections between the Ancient Greek contributions and their ongoing impact on our lives today.

Students went on a guided tour of the historic halls to view the House of Representatives, Senate, and the old Supreme Court chamber. Along the way, students learned about our three branches of government, prominent Tennessee leaders, and the history of the Capitol. Students were honored to meet Governor Bill Lee, ask him questions, and take a tour of his office. Each student received a challenge coin from Governor Lee as a reminder of their visit.
