Christ Presbyterian Academy
Reformation Day at CPA

This week, CPA Lower School celebrated the life and legacy of Reformation leader Martin Luther on Reformation Day. This annual event has become a curricular highlight for students K-5, walking them through the history of the Protestant Reformation, highlighting God’s faithfulness to His church, and emphasizing the importance of Scripture.

In 1517, Martin Luther sparked a movement that would change the course of history. By posting his Ninety-five Theses, a list of arguments challenging the sale of indulgences, Luther invited open debate and ultimately ignited the Protestant Reformation. His conviction that salvation comes through faith alone and that Scripture is the ultimate authority (Sola Scriptura) became the foundation of Protestant theology. Though his actions led to excommunication, Luther’s ideas spread quickly across Europe, leading to the creation of Protestantism.

Students took part in a series of hands-on activities that brought Martin Luther’s story and the heart of the Protestant Reformation to life. In one rotation, students experienced what it was like for Luther to translate the New Testament by writing with quills and ink before “nailing” their work to a door, just as Luther did in 1517. Another activity invited students to create an edible version of the Luther Rose, using treats like blueberries, whipped cream, and sugar cookies to symbolize the truths of Scripture that Luther refused to recant. Students also explored the power of the printing press by recreating the process of producing and sharing written works, learning how this technology helped spread the Reformation across Europe. Finally, students raced through a Martin Luther obstacle course, retracing key moments of Luther’s journey and connecting history, faith, and fun in an engaging celebration of this pivotal moment in Church history.

Students were inspired to be confident and bold in their Kingdom calling, like Martin Luther, and be individuals who find strength in the inexhaustible power of God alone. In every school, the CPA Spiritual Life team works to integrate a faith-centered curriculum, offering each student ample opportunities to connect with the Bible and their own relationship with God.
