Fifth graders practice industry skills at Biztown

Fifth graders had a day full of experiential learning at Junior Achievement BizTown, practicing the ins and outs of business, commerce, sales, and public service. This simulation is an engaging hands-on opportunity for students to explore different aspects of the economy.

Before attending, students campaigned for public office, and a Mayor of Biztown was elected after individuals delivered speeches and competed in a run-off. Additionally, each company in Biztown had a CEO who delivered an introduction to the grade about their company and why you should be interested in their products.

Students were assigned "shifts" at their respective places of employment, including a restaurant, pet adoption center, news station, clothing store, and others. While on "break," they could cash their paychecks at the bank, set up a direct deposit, pick up their health insurance card, shop at nearby businesses, interact with fellow townspeople, and more.

Whether a police officer, radio host, UPS worker, chief financial officer, store employee, or other job, each student had an integral role to play at Biztown. As these students transition into sixth grade, they'll take these valuable communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills as they continue to "live transformed by His truth for His glory."
