CPA’s Soli Deo Center hosts production of The Hiding Place: a full-circle moment for CPA Arts

Christ Presbyterian Academy is honored to host the local production of The Hiding Place, partnering with director and designer (and alum) Matt Logan ʼ95 and creative collective The Rabbit Room. This professional production will take place on the Soli Deo Center stage from June 30 to July 17 this summer, and theater-goers from across middle Tennessee will come to take in the impactful story of Corrie Ten Boom.

As an adaptation of the original book, The Hiding Place, this production portrays the inestimable courage of Corrie ten Boom navigating the atrocities  of Nazi-infiltrated Holland during World War II.

“We believe Corrie Ten Boom’s story bears repeating, re-visiting, and re-telling  today more than ever. As I wrote when I first began the adaptation process: This then is the calling of the writer, the novelist—the playwright. To strive against the forgetfulness of the world. To proclaim a whisper in defiance of cacophony. In the telling of our tales we give back to the dead their testimonies, and they, in turn, give them back to the ages. Only by story does the world remember,” says Executive Director of the Rabbit Room Pete Peterson.

Director and designer Matt Logan graduated from CPA in 1995 as a student of the arts under founding Artistic Director Paula Flautt. He was also instrumental in the aesthetic design of the artistic spaces in the Soli Deo Center. Logan’s creative footprint on campus continues to grow as he returns to direct this powerful piece. Succeeding Flautt as Artistic Director at CPA is Jake Speck, a colleague of Logan’s (co-founders of local theater company Studio Tenn) and fellow CPA alum (2000). This particular adaptation was originally commissioned by Speck in 2018 while he served as the Executive Director for theater group A.D. Players in Houston, Texas, followed by its world premiere in 2019.
