CPA Lower School Celebrates the Winter Olympics

In lower school P.E., students have been competing in Winter Olympic-inspired games, including bobsledding and human curling. They have also been learning about the history of the modern Olympic games which started in 1896.

Starting in 1928, the Olympic torch was introduced to symbolize peace and harmony between the ancient and modern games. In 1936, the Olympic Torch Relay began, representing friendship as the torch travels from Olympia, Greece, through different cities and is carried by many people to reach the host city of the Games. This lesson sparked first-grader Mary Schumacher to bring an Olympic torch her great-grandmother carried in the relay on its way to the 1996 Games in Atlanta, GA. Students were excited to see the torch that was designed to reflect the local culture of Atlanta with special inscriptions. We are grateful that students had the opportunity to view this piece of history as they celebrate the 2026 Olympic Games!
