CPA Athletics: Spring Fling Highlights

CPA student athletes participating in spring sports have shown dedication and focus as teams and individuals have advanced to high levels of competition. Read the spring fling highlights below: 

Boys Lacrosse
After a golden goal overtime victory against Knoxville Webb in The Den in the state semifinal, the varsity boys lacrosse team defeated Ensworth 7-4 to win the TSLA State Championship for the first time in program history. Congratulations to this team on an exciting and historic season! 

Girls Lacrosse
In only its fourth year as a varsity sport, girls lacrosse had several firsts:  First 10+ win season finishing in 11-4, first time to go undefeated at home (10-0), first top 5 finish in the state, and first time to have a player continue their athletic career at the NCAA Division I level (Ella Bobbit).  They closed out the regular season with a dramatic 12-11 triple overtime victory over Page in The Den. The girls qualified for the TGLA playoffs for the second consecutive year before losing to GPS in the state quarterfinals.

Softball
The varsity softball team were region runner-up and advanced to the state quarterfinals for the second time in program history, losing to Chattanooga Christian. Congratulations to this hardworking team on an amazing season! 

Boys Soccer
The varsity boys soccer team were region runner-up for the second consecutive year and advanced to the state championship match after defeating McCallie and Christian Brothers before losing to MBA in a penalty kick shootout.  This is the first CPA team to advance to a state final in the Division II-AA era which began in 2021.

Baseball
The varsity baseball team was a state runner-up team, losing 4-3 to Knoxville Catholic. The Lions finished the season 29-13 as region champions and worked hard to make it to the highest level of DII-AA competition in the state. 

Track & Field
The varsity track and field team had an impressive showing at the state meet with several team and individual state titles for both boys and girls events. 

  • State Champion Boys Long Jump: London Humphreys
    This is London’s third consecutive state championship in the long jump and his sixth overall.
  • State Champion Boys 4x100 Relay: Leroy Harris, Ondre Evans, Owen Cabell, London Humphreys
    This is the second consecutive year the boys 4x100 relay team has won the state championship. Ondre and London were also part of the 2022 team.
  • State Champion, Girls 300 Hurdles: Halli Olivo
    In 2022, Halli finished second in the 300 hurdles as an eighth grader. This is her third state championship, after winning the high jump and 4x400 relay last year.
  • Second Place, Boys 100: Ondre Evans, 2nd
  • Third Place, Boys 100: London Humphreys
  • Second Place, Boys 200: London Humphreys
  • Third Place, Boys 200: Ondre Evans

Tennis
Congratulations to Jack Wamble on advancing to the Division II-AA State Quarterfinal in boys singles. We’re proud of the hard work he showed this season.
