CPA Athletics is excited to announce Nathan Cummings as the new Varsity Boys Cross Country Head Coach. Nathan comes to CPA with 12 years of experience in teaching and coaching from Brentwood Middle School (BMS), specifically working with cross country and track distance runners. Nathan graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2011 with degrees in History and Secondary Education. Nathan holds a Masters in Lesson Design and Technologies from Arizona State University. He has taught Social Studies, World Geography, World History, and American History at BMS, and as part of his new role at CPA, Nathan will also be serving as Instructor of History at CPA Upper School.
Nathan’s skill set for the sport of cross country paired with his ability to connect with and motivate students will be an asset to the overall focus of the athletic program at CPA: to develop boys and girls into young men and women of faith through the integrity of the training process, the shared experience of whole-hearted competition, and an others-focused leadership mentality.
Nathan is eager to join the CPA community: “I am a fierce advocate for my athletes, an encourager, and a supporter. I am so thankful God has allowed me to develop as an educator and coach, and my family would like to thank you for welcoming us to this great community. We pray to be good listeners to God and to continuously learn the lessons He has for us as we enter this new journey. We are excited to get to know and live life with you!”
“I am looking forward to the many ways Coach Cummings will lead our cross country program and coach the boys in their sport while also walking along side of them in who God is growing them to be. We are happy to have him in our school community and on our coaching staff,” says Athletic Director Ingle Martin.
“I am thrilled for Mr. Cummings to be joining our team and the History Department in the Upper School. Mr. Cummings is a fantastic teacher and pursues excellence in all he does. I have witnessed first hand the deep impact he has on his students and school community. I look forward to seeing how the Lord uses Mr. Cummings to teach, coach, and disciple our students in the Upper School," says Head of US Dr. Brandon Barkley.
There will be an interest meeting for all US boys interested in Cross Country for the 2023-24 school year. The meeting will be on Thursday, June 22, at 6 p.m., in the US Dining Hall.
