CPA Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, and Track all competed in the state championships!

News from TSSAA Spring Fling

Baseball

CPA baseball had a great season filled with a determination to advance and strong wins. Congratulations to the coaches and team for their 2014 district, region, and sectional championship titles!

Comments on the season from Baseball Coach Larry Nesbitt:

Every year I have coached at CPA, the team has laid out season goals. We want to win this many games or this many championships, etc. The 2014 season was different; we did not specify those mile markers. The only goal of the 2014 season was to play on the final day of the high-school season. I highly doubt our players knew how many games we won this year. Yes, we wanted to win would compete, but again, the ultimate goal was for this team to stay together until the final game. They wanted to stay together; they wanted to continue to play together because they truly loved each other. In the end, we were two days short of our goal. Although we did not write it down as a goal for the year, we had our most successful season in terms of achievement (Region Champions, Sectional Champions, State Tournament Appearance). The achievements were a product from the higher goal of a team determined to continue to play together.

Soccer

**CPA Boys Soccer wins the state championship 1-0! Congratulations for an exciting and hard-fought season!**

Comments on the season from Soccer Coach Brett Armstrong:

The 2014 boys’ soccer season began in early February with high expectations in the midst of a really cold winter. From the very beginning it was evident that these guys were not only good soccer players, but they were great friends who loved playing soccer together. On those cold, blustery winter days, even before official practice started, the seniors would gather our huge group of guys together and they’d spend the afternoon playing endless pick-up games out of the joy of deep friendships and playing soccer together once again.

As winter turned to spring, and as the boys continued to grow together, it became obvious that this had a chance to be a special team. A preseason retreat only drew the boys closer together and defined their goals for the season: Goals once again to “Love God, Love the Brothers, & Love the Game” as fully as they could. The theme for the year became the body of Christ and the essential role each boy would play in making us whole.

As we moved through the early part of the schedule and into our matches in our new district, the momentum continued to build. More than the wins and losses, it became clear this group, led by our 14 seniors, had an uncommon chemistry and love for each other. Every practice and every game became one more chance to play soccer together.

The run through the postseason was extraordinary as the boys set a new team record for games won in a season. The state tournament run was something none of us will ever forget and the love and support the boys felt from their friends and families fueled the sense this was truly something unique. The final game against CAK was a hard-fought match that hung in the balance until, in the final 20 minutes, Josh Pedicini’s header put us over the top. The sense of unbridled joy that swept over all of the boys as the final seconds ticked off the clock was an amazing thing to see. We are grateful for the lifetime memories made of an amazing season with a truly special group of boys.

Tennis

CPA boys tennis team wins 2nd place in state championship!

Comments from Boys Tennis Coach Jeremy White:

The 2014 CPA tennis season came once again with a journey to state in both the team and individual competition. Our third trip in three years led us down a path to the districtregion, and sectional tournaments. With leadership from two juniors, Zayne Mills and Jack Zieman, we saw success come, despite our youth, as we focused on hard work, discipline, and a commitment to excellence.
While wins often define success, I do not see it as so. I have watched a group of young men grow in the sport of tennis, grow as future leaders, and grow as true teammates and warriors of God. Our success can be seen in the brotherhood God has created.
